SPECIAL NORTHAMPTON PRE-FESTIVAL EVENT

INDUSTRIOUS ANGELS: Female Inspirations

A lecture/demo by Laurie McCants, who will present excerpts from Industrious Angels, her solo “handcrafted-story-spinning-shadow-puppet-memory-play-with-music” evoking the secret creative lives of women, mother/daughter bloodlines, and the ghost of Emily Dickinson. She will reveal her process, illuminating how she kindled her creative fire by collaging together inspirations from the female artists, past and present, who are her spiritual nurturers. The full production will close the 2018 Ko Festival season.

Taking inspiration from Emily Dickinson’s line “God permits Industrious Angels — Afternoons — to play —” you are invited to stay for an optional hands-on workshop that will use simple materials and tools (scissors, paper, flashlights), to explore how handicrafts can create theatrical magic.

Normal Hall at Laurel Park, Rte 5, 1 mile north of River Valley Coop, Northampton.
No reservations needed. Suggested donation. $10. $5 suggested materials fee for workshop participants.

This program is supported, in part, by a grant from the Northampton Arts Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
