(September 21, 1954 — April 5, 2019)
Dan was a long-time Ko Board Member, Treasurer, webmaster, and spouse of Ko’s Artistic Director, Sabrina Hamilton. If you’ve been to Ko performances, you may remember him outside near the coffee, or in his favorite seat in the back row. Right before he died, Dan was set to head up a fundraising campaign for Ko to fill the void left by the Community Foundation’s decision to end Valley Gives Day. Please consider a gift by clicking the red donate button on the left to help fulfill his vision of a flourishing festival with a balanced budget.
We also recently lost another beloved, long-time Ko audience member, Sandra Campbell who asked that donations to Ko be made in her memory.

At the Ko Festival of Performance we repeatedly hear about the moments of transformation and transcendence our community of audience members and artists have experienced at our home in Amherst, MA as they participate in our
- theme-based seasons of performances and the stimulating opportunities for dialogue that follow every performance
- intensive six-day workshops, where people come to take a creative leap
- rehearsal residencies, where new work is broached in an environment of rigorous support
- internships that expose young people, particularly women, to technical and managerial skills, multiple creative processes, and time with the extraordinary roster of artists we produce
While we continue to run a “lean and mean” operation, our costs are rising, as are those of the artists we produce. Be they moments of sublime beauty, provocative ideas, or rolling-in-the-aisles humor, we need your help to achieve them!
Ko is funded in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency; the Amherst Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council; The 2020 NET/TEN Mini-Grant program of the Network of Ensemble Theaters; and Art Angels.
Thank-you to our 2019 media sponsors: Daily Hampshire Gazette, WRSI, The Valley Advocate/Preview and WNEPR
In seasons when we are able to meet in person we are also extremely grateful to the Amherst College Department of Theater and Dance for access to the Holden Theater and Webster Hall studio spaces.
